ID-ONE Derby Wins Big at IDSA Conference
One of the featured events at the IDSA Conference held in Austin in September was the annual Unlimited Derby car race, this year sponsored by IBM. The Derby car competition is based on the Boy Scouts' Pinewood Derby, and allows designers to showcase their innovation and creativity through this friendly, competitive venue. Designers are given unlimited freedom of design as long as the cars are completely gravity driven and fit a specific envelope. The competition is notoriously tight every year and this race has become one of the more exciting events at the annual conference. The competition is held over three days featuring a double elimination round-robin style tournament. The cars are judged not only on speed, but also on creativity and design, which is voted on by judges and a 'people's choice' award. In 2004 ID-ONE won for best concept, and is proud to announce that their 2006 derby car, Quick-Silver, has once again has won the award for “Best Design Exploration”. Quick-Silver is an organic, asymmetrical, mirror polished, three-wheeled derby car whose innovative design stunned all. ID-ONE is a cutting-edge product design consulting firm based in Austin, Texas specializing in taking innovative products from idea to production in record time.
